What we are looking for 

We are looking for an experienced operating room Licensed Practical Nurse with experience in orthopedics – THA/TKA, to join our dynamic team in Laval!

General Responsibilities:

• Admit the patient and verify their file;
• Review the file, data collection, and the safe surgery checklist;
• Perform surgical asepsis of hands and don sterile attire after the patient is positioned on the surgical table;
• Arrange instruments on the sterile table according to their function and logical order of use, and ensure this order is maintained throughout the surgery;
• Conduct an initial surgical inventory for materials (gauze, sharps, miscellaneous items) and surgical instruments;
• Arrange sterile tables around the surgical table and transfer to the outpatient department the necessary equipment for the operation of the devices and equipment;
• Follow the surgical procedure to anticipate and meet the surgeon's needs;
• Prepare, arrange, dispense, and receive the necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies in response to the surgeon's request;
• Perform technical assistance in response to a specific request from the surgeon, in order to support a procedure initiated by the surgeon;
• Prepare medications and solutions according to instructions received from the surgeon (except for intravenous administration);
• Apply the first layer of dressing while adhering to aseptic techniques;
• Ensure that all instruments, gauze, and equipment are removed from the surgical field and participate in the safe disposal of soiled linen, equipment, and instruments to the appropriate locations;
• Install and verify the operation of Devices and equipment, position them and adjust their parameters;
• Locate, plan, and prepare the equipment necessary for the procedure and verify its integrity;
• Prepare and position the patient according to the given instructions;
• Supply the internal ward with sterile surgical equipment and instruments;
• Position the patient, check pressure points, carefully observe any skin alterations, and apply the dispersing plate, if applicable;
• Open and give the sterile equipment to the internal ward nurse;
• Conduct a peri- and post-operative surgical inventory for equipment (gauze, sharps, miscellaneous items) and surgical instruments;
• Observe the surgical procedure, anticipate the needs of the internal surgical team, and ensure the control of the Sterility of the surgical area;
• Contribute to the overall preoperative assessment and perform the necessary follow-ups for safe surgery;
• Carry out procedures, request examinations, complete hospital records, and schedule consultations
to ensure safe procedures according to current CMS standards;
• Perform all other related tasks

Desired Profile

You possess:

  • More than 4years of experience in the operating room, specifically in orthopedics (THR/TKR)
  • A completed DEP in Nursing
  • A valid license to the OIIAQ
  • Excellent command of French, and an intermediate level of English
  • A desire to be actively involved in a stimulating environment
  • Strong human, relational, and professional skills

Compensation

Competitive, higher than that offered by the OIIAQ
