Operating Room Assistant

Work Location: Lacroix Private Medicine – 1000 Sainte-Foy Road, Quebec City

Status and Compensation: 4 or 5 days per week, depending on your preference and compensation: $27 to $32/hour
Immediate Supervisor: Head of Perioperative Care – Surgical Care

As an Operating Room Assistant, you will play a vital role in the operating room by ensuring the preparation of rooms, the availability of equipment, and providing logistical support to clinical teams.

In close collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, you will contribute to the safe and efficient execution of procedures. You will also participate in welcoming, transferring, positioning, and ensuring the comfort of patients before, during, and after their surgery. Your contribution will have a direct impact on the quality of care, the safety of procedures, and the overall patient experience. Main Responsibilities Preparing and Organizing Operating Rooms Prepare operating rooms according to the surgical schedule. Set up the equipment, furniture, and supplies required for each procedure. Verify the availability, cleanliness, and proper functioning of medical and surgical equipment. Ensure the replenishment of supplies and consumables. Maintain an organized environment that promotes efficient and smooth operations. Ensure that the rooms are ready to receive patients. users within the prescribed timeframes.

Technical Support in the Operating Room

  • Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure the smooth running of surgical procedures.
  • Transport, prepare, and make available the required equipment before, during, and after procedures.
  • Set up, dismantle, and store specialized equipment.
  • Participate in the opening and closing of operating rooms.
  • Promptly report any anomaly, defect, or situation that could compromise the safety or quality of care.

Reception, Transfer, Positioning, and Comfort of the User

  • Greet users with professionalism, kindness, and respect.
  • Perform safe transfers between the different clinical areas.
  • Properly position and install patients according to the requirements of each surgical procedure.
  • Apply the necessary protective measures to prevent injuries related to positioning or immobilization.
  • Assist the team with patient repositioning when required.
  • Participate in transfers to the recovery room and post-operative recovery areas.
  • Ensure the comfort, dignity, safety, and privacy of patients before and after their procedure.
  • Actively contribute to creating a reassuring, humane, and positive experience throughout the surgical process.

Equipment and Inventory Management

  • Participate in the daily management of medical and surgical equipment inventory.
  • Receive, store, and rotate supplies Supplies.
  • Check expiration dates and equipment conformity.
  • Collaborate in identifying replenishment needs.
  • Ensure the traceability of medical devices in accordance with established procedures.

Infection Prevention and Control

  • Strictly apply aseptic and infection prevention standards.
  • Participate in the cleaning, disinfection, and restoration of rooms between procedures.
  • Handle instruments, equipment, and supplies according to current standards.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant clinical environment.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with all team members Multidisciplinary.
  • Participate in team meetings, audits, and continuing education activities.
  • Contribute to process improvement and optimization of the patient experience.
  • Perform any other related tasks that promote operational and clinical excellence in the operating room.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma (DES).
  • Training in a health-related field (an asset).
  • Training in operating room technical assistance or any other relevant training (an asset).
  • Safe Patient Handling (PDSB) training is mandatory.

Required Experience

  • Operating room experience, in intensive care or a specialized clinical environment.
  • Experience in a private surgical setting (an asset).

Technical Skills

  • Good knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection prevention.
  • Ability to handle medical equipment and surgical instruments.
  • Excellent ability to perform safe transfers and ensure proper patient positioning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where quality and safety are paramount.
