Assets Pipeline TD/Developer

Under the supervision of the Lead Assets Pipeline TD, the Assets Pipeline TD/Developer will maintain and advance the Cinesite pipeline for the assets, shading, and environment departments on both our animated and VFX shows across the group. Through the programming of new tools and plug-ins, the incumbent must ensure the artists toolset is efficient and up to date with new production challenges to enable the artists to focus on creative and artistic issues and deliver stunning imagery.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide users support for animation departments; diagnose bugs and issues, provide solutions and workarounds for modeling, texturing, surfacing and lookdev artists across divisions and across sites.
  • Maintain and develop libraries (Python) and API for our pipeline tools for the needs of projects.
  • Support the pipeline and Maya tools and API ensuring compliance with Cinesite’s production pipeline, as well as the global Cinesite pipeline (VFX and Animation, Montreal, London, Vancouver, Germany).
  • Test and document new software/modules and evaluate the impact of value added to the pipeline.
  • Monitor the assets artist’s workflow in the studio and streamline operations.
  • Participate in the development and optimization of the long term toolset to be able to support a variety of workflows and increasingly complex shots
  • Work closely with the other Pipeline TDs and Developers to ensure that standard work practices are followed and to report common problems in animation.
  • Act as a frontline defense and tackle software and tool bug tickets, as well as contribute to long term feature requests
  • Assist FA & VFX Assets departments in evaluating and selecting new technologies.
  • Follow standard software development practices such as code review, Jira ticket evaluation and triage
  • Mentor less experienced team members on your areas of expertise

 Qualifications:

  • 5> years’ experience in developing tools and API with Maya
  • Experience with Modeling, Texture, Shading, and Environment building workflows within a production environment
  • University degree in Computer Science, Animation, Arts, and/or equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Python and PySide programming
  • Basic knowledge of C/C++ programming language is a plus
  • Good understanding of the pipeline and workflow specific to VFX and animation film industry
  • Experience with source control and build systems in a Linux environment
  • Knowledge of 3D, rendering techniques, imaging formats, etc. (a plus)
  • A proactive attitude and great team spirit are essentials
  • Good communications skills, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
