The Imaging Specialist acts as an expert when it comes to imaging and digital colour management standards and workflows and covers both our divisions, VFX and Animation. He/she is familiar with best practices in data sharing and colour transformation and applies them to the needs of Cinesite.
Responsibilities:
- Calibrate, configure, and troubleshoot projection tools and systems and provide support related to their use;
- Adjust and define the coloring, making sure it is adapted to each project in order to meet the client's artistic requirements (depth, exposure, photorealism);
- Understand current motion picture and television imaging practices and tools, and ensure their development in parallel with the related creative requirements;
- Collaborate with editors, producers, compositors, developers, and systems administrators and understand their goals and challenges;
- Continuously update Cinesite’s tools and procedures with the new arising technologies and norms that shape the way images are captured, manipulated, and reproduced to ensure longevity;
- Evaluate and test new imaging technology and pipelines to gauge their potential impact for Cinesite and the industry as a whole;
- Interact on a regular basis with the imaging and color science community;
- Easily explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Qualifications:
- Minimum B.S. in Imaging or Color Science related field, or equivalent work experience and knowledge in a technical capacity, interacting with creatives and operators;
- Understanding of a variety of professional imaging and color pipelines, transforms, LUTs, and common practices across different types of content, including feature film VFX, animated feature films and television or streams series;
- Understanding of cameras, projectors and display characterization, color grading systems, VFX / animation software, and calibration procedures;
- Knowledge of image formats, color encodings, video formats, and display technology;
- Knowledge of industry standards and the bodies that ratify them;
- The communication skills to clearly articulate and document technical concepts and explain how they impact the creative process.
