  • Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
  • Experience: Experience an asset

Tasks

  • Conduct initial dental assessments
  • Consult with dentists on patient care
  • Take dental impressions
  • Instruct patients regarding oral hygiene
  • Clean and stimulate the gums to prevent gum disease
  • Apply fluoride treatment
  • Remove stains and deposits from teeth
  • Take, develop and mount X-rays
  • Apply and remove temporary dressings
  • Diagnose type and severity of diseases
  • Remove sutures
  • Perform restorative and orthodontic procedures under the direction of a dentist

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses 

  • Membership with the Ordre des hygiénistes dentaires du Québec
