For its Police Service, the City of Laval is looking for a: Crime Prevention Worker

 

STATUS:  Temporary contract ending in December 2027

SALARY:   $55,827.92 to $85,889.08 (2024 salary)

 

The challenges that await you

Perform various tasks related to assessment, needs analysis, and support for interventions, contributing to the planning and implementation of prevention activities for the Laval Police Service (SPL). Ensure a presence in youth environments determined by the prevention section to support organizational objectives in prevention, safety, and collaboration with the community. Collect and analyze risk factors, protective factors, and emerging needs to support the assessment of situations and guide preventive actions.

 

Also participate in the development, organization, and supervision of sports, artistic, and cultural activities of the prevention section, with the aim of building trust, encouraging positive youth engagement, and supporting their personal and social development, in a perspective of risk reduction and crime prevention.

 

You will also be required to:

 

  • Collaborate in identifying and directing vulnerable youth, participating in referral mechanisms with partners.
  • Support police officers, school workers, and community partners during field activities, maintaining continuous communication to ensure the consistency of interventions.
  • Accompany, guide, and refer youth to appropriate school, community, or institutional resources, respecting established procedures.
  • Maintain a regular presence in youth environments (schools, organizations, sports facilities, public spaces) to contribute to strengthening the link between the Laval Police Service and the community.
  • Write activity reports and summaries for your supervisor, ensure annual accountability, and update tracking tables.
The ideal profile for us

 

  • Hold a college diploma (DEC) in social work, specialized education, delinquency intervention, criminology intervention, or any other relevant discipline;
  • Have 12 months of experience in intervention with youth and other vulnerable populations (e.g., mental health, addictions, homelessness);
  • Be able to create and maintain partner networks;
  • Excellent command of the French language, both oral and written;

  • Compensation - Class 8: $55,827.91 to $82,548.96 per year.
