Senior Mechanical Designer, Product Development

Based in Anjou (Montreal), our client is a manufacturer of robotic systems and industrial automation solutions.

Under the supervision of the Product Development Team Leader, the person is responsible for the development and improvement of products. The Senior Mechanical designer  will be involved in the ongoing training of the various resources and is responsible for monitoring and respecting the various working methods in place, in addition to ensuring that quality, budget and schedule objectives are maintained.

The mechanical design lead must also support the sales team by contributing to the analysis of customer needs and the evaluation of project costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help in the implementation of working methods, the selection of standard components, training and support in product development
  • Participate in the initiation and planning phases of projects
  • Lead the brainstorming and proposal analysis phases
  • Complete the product development project (design phase, start-up or customer support)
  • Responsible for the quality of product development projects product
  • Create test benches to validate hypotheses
  • Document the different stages of the product development process
  • Be on the lookout for the latest technologies and propose innovative concepts
  • Support the project team in the development and delivery of the project
  • Create preliminary concepts that will be transferred to designers
  • Support the PDM vault administrator in keeping libraries up to date

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or DEC in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of industrial automation equipment
  • Very good knowledge of SolidWorks, PDM and Draftsight software
  • Good relationship with suppliers and good knowledge suppliers (components, technology)
  • Good knowledge of French and English
  • Knowledge of electrical design and programming principles (asset)
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
  • Availability to travel occasionally outside the metropolitan area and outside the country
