Optometric assistant

  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years

Tasks

  • Assist physicians in the assessment of patients
  • Position patients for treatments by chiropractor or machine
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment and instrumentation for re-use according to standardized safety practices
  • Schedule and confirm appointments
  • Manage routine office functions including reception, telephone and booking appointments
  • Provide advice about merchandise
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of examinations
  • Obtain specifications for eyeglasses and contact lenses from a prescription prepared by an ophthalmologist or optometrist
