Building mechanics design technician

Do you enjoy designing mechanical plans and specifications for commercial buildings and multi-unit dwellings? If so, keep reading. My client is a medium-sized engineering consulting firm that has been in business for over 25 years in Montreal. They are looking for a mechanical design technician to expand their team due to new projects. The position can be either 80% remote or in-person. The firm offers flexibility, a great collaborative work environment and the boss is empathetic. Several projects are renovations from $200K to $1 million of well-known companies in the commercial, multi-unit dwelling and data center sectors. Their largest project is a new $500 million project.

Tasks:
- Develop plans and specifications required for the completion of building projects, ventilation systems, automatic control, air conditioning, heating and cooling, plumbing and fire protection.
- Validate the compliance of mechanical plans with established standards;
- Review and annotate shop drawings under the supervision of an engineer;
- Perform interdisciplinary coordination;
- Estimate construction costs and quantities in accordance with standardized methods and established plans and specifications;
- Develop tables, lists, calculations and estimates;
- Perform various simulations using using specialized software;
- Carry out studies and write technical reports in collaboration with an engineer;
- Carry out surveys and site monitoring reports including coordination with contractors;
- Solve technical problems;
- Propose and lead continuous improvement for the preparation of drawings (standards, working methods, tools);

Ideal candidate:
- DEC in building mechanics, a DEP is accepted if you have 10 years of experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the field of consulting engineering;
- Technical knowledge: ventilation systems, automatic regulation, air conditioning, heating and cooling, plumbing and protection fire;
- Experience with multi-unit or commercial projects (required)
- Knowledge of current codes and standards, including the National Plumbing Code, ASHRAE standards and the National Building Code;
- Fluency in spoken and written French, bilingualism an asset;
- Possess the ASP construction certificate for the General Health and Safety Course on construction sites;
- Proficiency in REVIT (required);
- Knowledge of AutoCAD software;
- Good knowledge of the Office suite;
- Possess a valid driver's license.

Conditions:
•Full-time, permanent position. (37.5 hours)
•Competitive salary $65-85K depending on whether you have 4 or 20 years of experience and the projects you have done.
