Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager reports to the Senior Human Resources Business Partner and supports selected plants and offices across Canada to achieve overall corporate goals and foster an environment in which employees feel valued. The person applying is ideally an accomplished human resources professional with strong communication and priority setting skills, and has experience in labor relations.

  • This position is based at our plant in Delson, QC and requires travel to all of our Quebec locations (Sorel-Tracy, Gatineau, Rivière-Rouge)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support plant management teams and define processes to align HR policies, procedures and programs with company goals, objectives and operating principles.
  • Keep current on legal requirements and government regulations relating to reporting affecting human resources functions and ensuring that policies, procedures and reports are compliant.
  • Communicate company policies and philosophy and provide advice on human resource matters in accordance with applicable legislation and internal policies and processes.
  • Provide employee relations support unionized and non-unionized, including negotiating collective agreements, conducting union-management meetings, investigations and grievance procedures, and providing advice on the general administration of a collective agreement.
  • Maintain working relationships with union representatives, uphold contracts and participate in contract negotiations as appropriate.
  • Take the pulse of each facility and work with the management team to promote an inclusive culture, engaged and high performing in every plant and office.
  • Identify, develop, and implement training programs for employees, including legal training, training and onboarding of new employees, programs development, cross-training between plants and employee development training.
  • Recruit for designated customer groups, including operational and administrative positions.
  • Maintain records and reports and assist in updating any other relevant documents.
  • Prepare termination documents, severance pay, and ensure compliance with provincial and federal laws.
  • Collaborate on the new digitization project for all employee personal files (procedures and communication).
  • Replace, if necessary, the main human resources business partner.
  • Perform any other task assigned to him.

Profile sought

  • Certificate or Bachelor's degree in human resources
  • Member of the Order of Human Resources Advisors an asset
  • 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • In addition to a knowledge of the French language, this role requires proficiency in English as a result of the duties to be performed. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships at all hierarchical levels.
  • Respect and adherence to ethical principles relating to data protection and confidentiality.
  • Discretion in working approach due to the sensitive nature of the information.
  • Knowledge of Canadian employment legislation.
  • Knowledge of managing collective agreements.
  • Flexibility, ability to focus on other priorities to meet more urgent deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Superior talent for facilitation, persuasion, and influence.
  • Proactivity and ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Precision and attention to detail to produce a high volume of high-quality documents, and thoroughness in the management of multiple versions and revisions.

  • Advanced computer skills (HR database, Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).
