Production supervisor

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day management of plant operations and unionized employees. He ensures the application of health and safety, environment, production and quality rules and standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and support employees in a manufacturing and unionized environment
  • Apply the policies of the collective agreement and that of the employee handbook
  • Ensure good production practices as well as compliance with occupational health and safety and environmental standards
  • Participates in planning and controlling the production cycle in order to meet the growing needs of our customers
  • Ensure that orders are delivered in quality and on time to our customers and other factories
  • Ensure that physical inventories remain up to date at all times and support inventory transactions
  • Responsible for month-end inventory for chemicals, wood and supplies
  • Validate and approve employees' daily worked hours in the payroll system as well as vacations
  • Oversee receiving, yard, debarker, dryers, processing plant and shipping
  • Oversee the management of the garage, the maintenance of heavy machinery as well as the preventive maintenance program of the plant
  • Assists in determining and conducting necessary employee training
  • Communicating daily priorities and objectives to employees
  • Communicating daily results, inventory levels and priorities to the Plant Manager
  • Work in collaboration with the Plant Manager on irregular situations and continuous improvement of the site
  • Work in collaboration with the Plant Manager on the accomplishment of projects
  • Agent of change in the improvement of health and safety, the environment and productivity
  • Actively participate in maintaining, improving and respecting the application of our quality system (ISO)
  • Actively participate in maintaining, improving and respecting the application of our environmental standards (TRD)
  • Follow up and purchase supplies needed for production
  • Replace the Plant Manager when absent or on vacation
  • Respond to plant emergencies on the front line on all shifts (day/evening/night/weekend)
  • Perform all other tasks required in his/her executive and management role

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma
  • Technical in production, processing or management (asset)
  • PERMITS/CERTIFICATIONS
  • WHMIS training (asset)
  • TMD - Training in the transport of dangerous goods

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Significant experience in a unionized environment
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English (a strong asset)
