Chief Power Engineer

We are currently searching for a Chief Power Engineer to join our Bow Valley Square Team in Calgary, Alberta.

Scope:
The Chief Power Engineer is critical to the smooth operation and maintenance of our building systems and is required to supervise and work alongside a team of building operators and building service providers. The Chief Power Engineer has a high level of knowledge when it comes to building systems and equipment and plays a key role in the ESG programs in the building by leading projects and processes to achieve energy efficiency measures.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a team of building operators, including on-boarding, training, mentoring, development, and performance reviews
  • Responsible for coordination, supervision and management of vendors and contracts in accordance with established service agreements
  • Accountable for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all building related systems including the mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems for the buildings
  • Manage and monitor projects and maintenance activities amongst building operators
  • Frequent review of tenant request performance, provide direction for repairs and follow-up on work orders when required
  • Oversee inventory management of supplies and materials
  • Manage and maintain the Preventative Maintenance program to ensure duties and other inspections are completed as recommended by equipment manufacturers
  • Responsible for coordinating and documenting all compliance and maintenance activities that are required by code
  • Responsible for ensuring hot work procedures are adhered to by all staff and contractors
  • Assist the Operations Manager with the preparing, monitoring and controlling the operating budget for the building
  • Assist the Operations Manager with monthly variance analysis, expense reforecasting and accruals
  • Assist the Operations Manager with monitoring and controlling energy use in the complex, while providing recommendations on improving energy efficiency
  • Frequent review of tenant request performance, provide direction for repairs and follow-up on work orders when required
  • Work with the Operations Manager to develop, schedule, track and report operator training for safety and equipment maintenance
  • Liaise with the Construction Manager and Operations Manager for all base building mechanical and electrical information, and review all building construction drawings
  • Liaise with site base building consultants
  • Immediately respond to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns
  • Complying with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, occupational health and safety, and company directives
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

 Qualifications

  • Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and a minimum of seven years related experience and/or trade school training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A valid Alberta Power Engineers license, minimum 4th Class, is required for this position
  • A valid “Universal” level certification for CFC and HFC based refrigerants (EPA Section 608); to service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release ozone depleting refrigerants to the atmosphere or any similar combination of education and experience
  • Preference would be given to candidates with project management experience and are currently enrolled or have completed their SMT/SMA RPA/FMA or other BOMI and similar courses, or CFM/FMP or other IFMA courses
  • Have proven management and supervisory experience
  • Possess strong experience with working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including HVAC and life safety systems, Base Building networks, SMART building technologies.
  • Job may necessitate passing a government clearance for specific agency that is necessary component of job functions
  • Carry a good understanding of tenant building construction design and construction build outs, including MS Office; Excel, Outlook, Project, Word, and Excel
  • Literacy in Building Automation Systems, Angus Preventative Maintenance programs, and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Have excellent time management skills and can easily prioritize tasks while managing other ongoing activities

Working Environment And Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and technology such as computers, phones, and photocopiers

  • May be only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts; may be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments)
  • May require shift work and/or on call duties
  • Must have ability to stoop, stand, climb, frequently lift a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pumps, tools, ladders) and safely install rigging/lifting devices
  • Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine
